Manscaping 101 Men's Grooming Tips from head to toe for looking and smelling great

Daily Wash: Why is it so hard to find shampoo and soap that smells good for guys?

by Tris Hussey on April 11th, 2008

Here’s my gripe about body washes and shampoos–it is really hard to find one that doesn’t smell like a tropical rainforest, berry patch, or some other fruit.

Yes I have a men’s body watch that I like, but that doesn’t work for everyone in the house and then there is shampoo.

Shampoo just bugs me.

You know, guys like to wash their hair too.  And I really don’t want to smell like fruit.  Nor do I want to hunt around for an obscure brand or go to a salon to get it.

I haven’t tried the combo body wash-shampoo for men yet.  Have any of you tried it?  I just don’t know.  It can’t be too hard to create a shampoo and body wash that everyone in the family can agree on, can it?

Okay what am I thinking … looking at my tub with the assortment of stuff, yeah everyone likes their own stuff.

Still looking for that great shampoo though.

    Hey Tris - Try Lush.Com

They have a whole men’s section and it’s “manly” smelling stuff. I bought some of the ocean-y smelling stuff (sorry, too tired to look for the name) for a friend for Christmas and he’s hooked now.

I’ll have to give that a look. I haven’t personally tried their stuff before, but women I know rave about it.

I use a lush clove bodywash thinger, but it’s been discontinued… I might just slit my wrists.

oh, and I use a lush clove bar shampoo as well, but I’m starting to think that even though the scent is great, the shampooing characteristics aren’t correct for my hair.

Hmm clove sounds good. This is the second recommendation for Lush. There is one in Victoria so I’ll have to check it out I think.

Um, Clove? That sounds mighty spiffy.

(checks intarwebs, whoa a Lush two blocks away) I’ll have to give that a try too. Thanks Guys!

No kidding! I have to wander down to Lush in town and check them out. Wonder if I can get the manager to give me free stuff … hmm.

Paul Mitchell has a sub-brand available only in Salons called “Modern Elixirs” which has the best smell ever. I never quite think that whatever aroma it has makes it over to dry-hair state, maybe because of my regular use of Pomade which has its own subtle smell.

You should be able to go into any salon and pick up a small travel size to try it out, or ask for a sample, since it can be pricey for the big pump jug. Well worth it.

Hmm, certainly worth a look! Asking for samples is key, I think, sometimes a product sounds great maybe even smells great, but at home … maybe not so much.

If you’re looking for a good combo body wash-shampoo for men, Jack Black makes a great one called All-Over Wash that can be used… all over. Body, hair, and face are all fair game! It has a great masculine scent that’s not overpowering. Comes in 6 oz or a massive 33 oz with pump action.

We’d be glad to send some over for you to try if you’re interested… just let us know.

Ok, the Lush clove and peppermint soap didn’t pass muster in person but I fount a shampoo and conditioner as well as some exfoliating soap to try.

I used them for the first time today, so far I like them. Especially the shampoo and conditioner. We’ll see how it goes over time.
