Men’s grooming tools: Part 1 the No! No! yeah “No” is the right word for it
I’ve been testing a couple tools for “manscaping” of late. One you’ve probably heard of and one probably not. The Phillips Body Groom is pretty well known, the standard trimmer razor idea, the No! No! is new to North America and to men especially. It does its thing with heat and that makes it pretty darn interesting.
I’ll start with the No! No!, because this is the one that works, well, differently.
Remember the Epilady guys? Still spring thing that women were supposed to use instead of razor, waxing, etc for smoother legs? It worked by yanking the hair out, like uber tweezers, and over still supposed to make hair finer, etc. I remember my girlfriend trying one and almost being in tears using it.
So the No! No! doesn’t yank the hairs away, but sears them away. Yes, I said, sears.
Here’s the basic gist. You plug it into the wall, it’s not battery powered and you’ll understand why in a sec, and roll it across the area to be de-furred. Sounds great.
It’s how it works that might make you wince a bit. There is a little bar that heats up and as you roll it over your arm, chest, leg little wheels pull the hairs up and the bar roasts the hair off and then also a bit of the follicle as well. It’s the follicle roasting that is supposed to, over time, make the hairs finer, etc.
I tried it once on a small patch of my arm and really didn’t enjoy it. The smell of burning hair and semi-roasted flesh really wasn’t pleasant. The next morning the patch of skin still felt strange. Like a light sunburn.
I know that many women are looking forward to this device, but guys I think this is a pass for us. There are limitations in using it (where etc) and I think, well, it’s just not worth it.
Not only does it feel unpleasant, the price will make the remaining hair stand on end. We’re talking $200-250. Ouch, yeah.
Next up is going to be the Phillips Body Groom, which is not only more well known, but works on the age old principle of—cut the buggers off.

I don’t think I could handle the no!no! The smell of the hair alone would be bad enough, but I just don’t like the idea of searing anything off. Urgh.
