Men’s Hair Tips: Ladies let us tell the barber how we want our hair cut
Interesting follow up to my Top 10 hair cut tips for guys post from yesterday:
That said, there is nothing more emasculating than a grown man being escorted back to the barber chair by his wife or girlfriend. Oh yeah, there is something worse than that. That would be when the wife/girlfriend proceeds to have dialog with the Grooming Expert, explaining in detail just how he/she wants the man’s haircut to be done. This is usually accompanied by said wife/girlfriend pointing to her man as if he was a young child, grabbing his hair to show direction and rolling her eyes when her man throws in his two scents. A a few of these rule-breakers will even insist on standing nearby throughout the entire haircut process to make sure all goes well. Ohhh… those poor guys.
The bottom line is that such actions make a man feel like a child, a goofus and make the men sitting in the other chairs feel uncomfortable as well. These few ladies have to trust that their men can handle this, and if not, that our Grooming Experts will steer them in the right direction and all will be good with the world. In all seriousness, and contrary to the title, I don’t mind if my significant other gives the stylist/barber some suggestions. Though I do like to get a word in edgewise and talking first is nice too.
Sure guys we’re capable of getting a decent haircut on our own, but I’ve gotten some real “winners” when I’ve been left to my own devices, so having my girlfriend there is nice. If nothing else when my stylist fawns and flirts over me, my girlfriend gets a nice ego boost I think.
Not to mention, she’s usually right.
I do hate getting “the look” when I say “I think I’d like this…” and glance over and see … uh oh, maybe not.
But I set my ego aside and accept the fact that I don’t follow the latest trends in fashion or hair styles. So, if I want to look a little more up to date than a guy from “Father Knows Best” or “Leave it to Beaver”, I take her advice.
Frankly, I think it’s a great thing, too.

Ironically, being my blog is called She Knows Best, I never once accompanied my husband to his barber. At home he’d talk about how he would like it done and I’ll offer a little advice but I never go with him. Even with our son’s haircut. He takes him to the Barber. I let them do their own father and son thing :).
But then again, he was in the military for almost 14 years so he pretty much knew what kind of haircut he should get…LOL.

I always thought it was awesome when I could go by myself … now I know better ;)
