Product Review: Nivea for Men Extreme Comfort shave gel and post-shave balm
Last week I mentioned Nivea’s new line of Extreme Comfort shave gel and post-shave balm–Nivea’s new line of shave gels and aftershave balms–the proof is in the scent–yesterday my samples arrived (thank you very much Daniel) so I knew this morning would be my first product review post.
This is just my initial, first shave, review, I’m going to use the products for a couple days then give you some more information and buying advice later in the week.
Looking for that smooth, close shave
Obviously this review is going to start with the Nivea for Men Extreme Comfort shave gel. Easy to press button to get the stuff out. Early in the morning, this is important, imho. Probably used a wee too much, but wow, great lather! It lathered right up for me, which I find a lot of gels don’t do.
The other really important thing for me is the scent. Sure it might smell great after your shave, but during … I’ve used gels especially that just made me gag. This one was good.
As for the “MICRO tec” particles for getting the good stuff to my skin–I didn’t notice. This is just the first day.
Shave quality. Nice, smooth, rinsed pretty well (like Scott said). Didn’t notice if it was any closer than others.
Tris says: Good initial shave. Little irritation on my neck so I’ll have to see if this continues. Smells pretty good.
Janette says (my girlfriend): Didn’t notice if smoother or not (you missed a spot though honey — yeah thanks). Smells really good.
Overall this is doing well.
After the shave, time to sooth the skin
It’s no wonder guys get razor burn. Heck we are scraping off a layer of skin and the whiskers! It used to be men just splashed on the classic, alcohol-based aftershave (feel the burn, feel the burn) and went on with their day. Now we have “post-shave balms”, I’ve tried them before and the scents didn’t really thrill me.
This Nivea for Men Extreme Comfort post-shave balm (again with the MICRO tec for better absorption of the good stuff) seems to be pretty good. The bottle sits open end down (so no shaking to get it out), but I found the cap hard to open (this is first thing in the morning you know).
I used a dab of the balm–post-shave balms are things that don’t require a lot to work, I’ve found–and did the usual. There wasn’t a chorus of angels of anything, but it felt good. Again, nice scent. It felt greasy for a couple mins, but then my skin absorbed most of it.
Tris says: hard to open, but smells good and didn’t need a lot.
Janette says: smells really good! Face feels very smooth. Side note, when I asked Janette if I should put my usual Burberry on too, she said maybe later … so might be too much to use all of this at once.
So this is day one. Both products seem to be good, but like I said my neck is a little irritated, so we’ll have to see how it goes.
I did a little looking at my local London Drugs and found the post-shave balm for about $8. That particular gel wasn’t there, but I’m going to guess that it’s about $4-5.

Update: Thanks to the commenter who caught my typos. Maybe I should have more coffee before I post in the morning. I also got an email from Mike at Gear Crave that he has some of these Nivea products available as prizes. These two products specifically! I like your blog, but please do a good proofread. You have a couple of typos that really knock down the professionalism of this entry.
“There wasn’t a chorus of angels of anything, but it felt good”
“so now shaking to get it out”
and the dashes vs emdashes make the following sentence much more awkward than neccessary.
I used a dab of the balm–post-shave balms are things that don’t require a lot to work, I’ve found–and did the usual.

Getting a good shave first thing in the morning can be a real tough job, especially when you don’t have the right tools to do the job for you. I’ve tried several products by Nivea before, but these look good.
