Manscaping 101 Men\’s Grooming Tips from head to toe for looking and smelling great

Product Review: Old Spice Red Zone Double Impact body wash

by Tris Hussey on May 26th, 2008

I received a sample of the new Old Spice Red Zone Double Impact body wash and gave it a try this weekend.  In short it looks different, smells good, and feels different.  Is it better and does it make a difference, that’s the key question.

I like the recent body wash for men trend.  I like body washes instead of regular soap, I find that they tend to lather better and maybe clean better compared to soap.  Convenience?  Sure I think they are more convenient too.

So what do you need in a good body wash to make it great?  Do you need lots of other things like conditioners and such?  That’s where I’m unsure.

This new Double Impact body wash is suppose to clean better and hydrate your skin (smoother? less drying?).  First thing I noticed was that it did smell good, but the next thing was how it looked.  Instead of the usual gel or even cream (like hand soap), it was goopy.  I don’t have a better way to describe it.  It looked goopy.

Yeah, that was a bit of a turn off for me.  Still the proof isn’t in how it looks but how well it cleans.

I use a mesh sponge (aka poof) for my daily scrub, so a little (maybe too much) onto the sponge and …

Okay it does feel different on my skin, like a hand cream I guess.  Lather was good (I like good lather).

In the end, well I was clean and smelled good.  My skin didn’t feel noticeably different (it is supposed to take 5 days for the benefits of hydration to really be noticeable I gather).

It’s hard to give this a yea or nay.  If you are an Old Spice guy, you’ll probably like it.  At $4.00 a bottle (roughly) it isn’t too expensive.  Now do I think this is a huge advance in skin care?  Yeah, not so much.

Here’s what I say.  If you see it on sale, try it.  You’ll still get clean and it has a nice scent.  If you usually by something like that … cool.  Now for skin hydration, well I don’t know if it’s helping or hype.

Beyond that it’s a toss up.

Maybe when it comes down to it, body wash is body wash?

Old Spice and all Proctor and Gamble body washes are made in Mexico. Enough said…
