John Allan’s Splash After Shave from Shaving Stuff

After trying a lot of after after shave balms, I’ve noticed that they are “new school”  creams to sooth the skin, but what about the old school alcohol-based ones with a “bite” to them?  Well Russell at Shaving Stuff tried the the John Allan’s splash and was both shocked and surprised:
[A plea to […]

Men’s grooming tools: Part 1 the No! No! yeah “No” is the right word for it

I’ve been testing a couple tools for “manscaping” of late.  One you’ve probably heard of and one probably not.  The Phillips Body Groom is pretty well known, the standard trimmer razor idea, the No! No! is new to North America and to men especially.  It does its thing with heat and that makes it pretty […]

SIRCUITSkin products: nice, simple, and effective.

I received several samples of SircuitSkin’s “cosmeceuticals” Smooth Operator shave creme, x-trap face wash, and Cool Aid after shave balm.  Since I’m not the greedy type, I shared them around with some friends (like my lawyer) to get their opinions on them.
Basically, yeah this stuff is good, works, it doesn’t smell over powering, and […]

Product Review: Gillette Hydrating Body Wash—works and is a good option

Recently I reviewed a body wash from Old Spice, and I liked it.  I’ve been using a similar body wash from Gillette as well and comparing the two is pretty interesting.
Both have similar textures (Gillette is purple, Old Spice blue), and do similar things and do it well.
I liked the Hydrating body wash fine, but […]

What are your best safety razor tips?

I’ve been using a safety razor for, what, about a month now.  I am far from an expert, as my neck will attest to at the moment, but I have picked up a few things and I thought I’d share them with you (for those who are considering going old skool):

Patience isn’t just a virtue, […]

Product Review: Barbershop Lounge Travel kit

You have to love a men’s hair care line with product names like “get lucky” “3-way” and “sure thing”.  I’ve been trying the Barbershop Lounge travel set of products for a while now.  My verdict: I like them.
The grooming creme and hair gel, well they work as you’d expect and don’t have an over-powering […]

Retrosexual versus Metrosexual versus I just want to look good and not care about labels

The whole “metrosexual” thing drives me more than a little nuts.  Now there is a (clearly) satirical “retrosexual” man idea that we need, as men, to be “real” men, back to our rugged roots:
Once, men were simply men. But then feminists decided they were chauvinist pigs who didn’t spend enough time doing the dishes. So […]

Product Review: Gillette Fusion Power Phenom–I don’t need vibrations to have a great shave

I was given a couple Gillette Fusion Power Phenom razors recently to take on a test drive.  You know that I’ve been a Gillette man since college and my first Atra razor.  It’s only been recently that I’ve moved to the old school (and better) safety razor.
So, are five blades better than one?  Does a […]

Manscaping Review: Neutrogena Eye Reviver–it actually does work and fast!

You all should know by now that I’m a pretty big skeptic when it comes to all these products.  Sure they look and smell great but, do they work and are they worth it.  That’s my big question.  So of the products that I was sent to try from Neutrogena in their men’s line, […]

Men’s Grooming question: How much would you change for a woman?

We’ve all done it.  You start wooing or dating someone and she says “I really love guys in pink shirts…” and you go get one (or three).  The question then becomes, where would you draw the line?  What about your appearance? How much are you willing to change for someone?
How much is too much?
I was […]
