Manscaping 101 Men\’s Grooming Tips from head to toe for looking and smelling great

We’re hooked in by marketing, convenience, and the color orange–Gillette has us hooked

by Tris Hussey on May 20th, 2008

Gillette, I believe, is the most popular brand of razor in North America.  Chances are you check the bathrooms or dop kits, you’re going to fine a Gillette product.

I was skimming my feeds (using Snackr, actually) and saw a bit from Alec Saunders (Alec I didn’t know you were into men’s grooming–swing on by you might pick up a trick or two):

Paying attention to brand at this level isn’t something that just the big guys can focus on. In the software industry, we can incorporate UI, corporate image, and more in the identity that we create for our businesses. Gillette just happens to be very good at it. And how far did Gillette take their identity? Well, even the gel dispensed from the can was coloured Gillette Fusion blue. Obsessive? You decide.—Gillette’s obsession with brand — Alec Saunders SquawkBox

His post, mostly on the wall of Gillette orange and that even the shave gel was the right shade of blue, got me to thinking about how we’ve bought into the marketing of shaving.

Heck the marketing of men’s grooming in general.

Oh, I know I’m not immune.

Far from it of course.  I wonder, how much we’ve given into marketing, versus what we really like?

Does soap have to have anti-bacterial agents or essential oils?

What do shaving creams, gels, balms, etc really need to work?

Maybe … then I need to look at more closely at this stuff.
